Asian Spiced Oil

Making your own oils is really fun!


I made this to accompany some dumplings as a dipping oil, however it can be used for cooking too!


Equipment;

Pan

Air tight container

Bowl

Thermometer (optional)


Ingredients;

2 Bay leaves

2 Star Anise

2 tsp Chili flakes

100ml Sunflower or vegetable oil

100ml Sesame oil

 

Place your Sunflower or vegetable oil into a pan and turn the heat up. If you have a food safe thermometer place this in and wait for the oil to rise up to 140c. If you do not leave it until the oil is hot and continue for anther 5 minutes after.


In the mean time place the seasonings into a heatproof bowl.


Carefully pour the hot oil over the seasoning and leave to cool completely.


Once cooled pour over the sesame oil and give it a gentle mix. Pour into your container and you are done!
